- Rose Dekkers, 84, of rural Hawarden died Tuesday, Feb. 27, 1996, at the Hawarden Community Hospital.
Services were at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Lebanon Christian Reformed Church in Lebanon with the Rev. Dale Visser officiating. Burial was in the Lebanon Cemtery. Visitation was at noon Thursday, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Porter-Dow Funeral Home in Hawarden.
Mrs. Dekkers was born April 2, 1911, near Rock Valley, the daughter of Jake and Fannie (Hoekstra) Kooima. She spent her youth in the Rock Valley area.
On Feb. 21, 1934, she married John W. Dekkers at the home of her parents. The couple farmed in the Ireton and Hawarden vicinity. He died June 28, 1978. Mrs. Dekkers was an active member of the Lebanon Christian Reformed Church.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Anthony and Arlene of Hawarden, Marvin and Gertrude of Tempe, AZ., and Warren and Ruth of Hawarden; a daughter, Maxine and her husband John Te Slaa of Hull; two brothers , Gerrit and Ted Kooima, both of Rock Valley; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Marlene; two grandchildren Gaylene and Arnold Dekkers; four brothers, Sam, Tony, John and Charles, and four sisters, Jessie, Tena, Anna and Annelta. Memorials may be made in her name to Hope Haven in Rock Valley.
